"The First Vehicle" on the Apron - Passenger Stair Truck

Passenger stair trucks are the primary means to facilitate the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and personnel from an aircraft. These vehicles are characterized by their maneuverability and versatility, allowing them to operate at different locations on the apron based on the positioning of the aircraft and becoming indispensable ground equipment on the apron.

The structure of an aircraft passenger boarding bridge is well-defined, comprising a vehicle chassis, the boarding platform, hydraulic lift systems, and an electrical control system.

Operating Principle:

1) As the passenger boarding bridge approaches the aircraft cabin door, the front platform aligns with the door, and the power take-off and hydraulic pump are engaged. The engine powers the mobile staircase and the platform's ascent and descent.

2) When the platform reaches the corresponding height of the aircraft cabin door, the operator maneuvers the vehicle, allowing the front end of the boarding platform to gently and flexibly dock with the lower edge of the aircraft cabin door.

3) Lower the support legs, disconnect the hydraulic pump, shut down the engine, extend the platform's safety handrail, and open the aircraft door to allow passengers to board or disembark using the boarding stairs.

4) Upon evacuating the aircraft, retract the safety barrier, fold the support legs, reverse slowly, and lower the mobile staircase after moving away from the aircraft.

The use of passenger stair trucks not only enhances the efficiency of airport ground handling services but also provides passengers with a more convenient boarding experience, playing a crucial role in connecting aircraft with the ground and ensuring the smooth operation of flights.
